Framed 94cm x 69cm in good condition with certificate. Would prefer collection from Basingstoke or Southampton but can post. B-17 Flying Fortresses of the 34th Bomb Group return to Mendlesham following a raid over Germany, April 1945. The Co-Pilot of B-17'Queenie' briefs the Crew Chief while another B-17 taxies in. Above them the last bomber home makes his final approach, streaming vapor from a badly overheated engine. The unpredictable English weather greets the returning airmen with a mixture of brilliant Spring sunshine and passing April showers. Returning to base following the ordeal of a grueling daylight raid, enduring barrages of flak and attacks from marauding enemy fighters, was a moment of exhilaration and relief for the weary aircrews, and this hectic, exciting wartime scene has been perfectly captured by artist Robert Taylor. Every print in this magnificent edition is personally hand signed by the artist and two distinguished B-17 Pilots. Lieutenant Colonel ROBERT W DEES.
