A powerful two print edition paying tribute to the P-47 Thunderbolts in WWII. It is the spring of 1944, and with the Normandy invasion just days away, P-47D Thunderbolts of the 78th Fighter Group, already painted with invasion markings, depart Duxford en route for the north coast of France, and a low-level strafing mission.

Duxford became home of the 78th Fighter Group when they arrived in England with their P-47B Thunderbolts in 1943. The objective of the American fighter units was to gain air superiority over the Luftwaffe in support of their daylight bombing campaign. By the end of 1944 they achieved their objective.

The 78th Fighter Group would become one of the most successful fighter units in the 8th Air Force and was extremely successful in the ground attack role. This superb release commemorates the valiant contribution of the Group during WWII. Joining artist Richard Taylor in signing this outstanding tribute to the P47 Thunderbolt is one of the most respected P-47 fighter Aces who flew combat over Europe during World War II.

RANKIN - 10 victories, including Ace in a day. This powerful piece is the perfect collector's item for aviation and WWII enthusiasts. The prints in my store are hand-signed by the veterans involved in the painting so the signatures are original autographs and not reproductions.

The certificate of authenticity is included. My items are guaranteed to be in perfect condition, any issues are clearly detailed in the description.
