Mountbatten of Burma signed Ltd Edition Royal Navy HMS Kelly Robert Taylor Print d. This wonderful piece of nicely presented artwork by the famous artist Robert Taylor is professionally framed in solid oak. It is No 482 of a Ltd Edition run of 2000 signed by the artist and Lord Louis Mountbatten in 1978.
It depicts the Royal Navy K-Class destroyer HMS Kelly leaving the Grand Harbour, Malta in 1941 with the battleship HMS Warspite in the background. Kelly, throughout her service was commanded by Lord Louis Mountbatten, as commander Captain (D) of the 5th Destroyer Flotilla. She was sadly lost in action in 1941 during the Battle of Crete, where she was bombed and sunk, with the loss of half her crew. Kelly did succeed in shooting down three of the attacking Stukas, while another was badly damaged and crashed upon returning to base. The oak framed, glazed & mounted artwork measures 38" x 28" and is signed in pencil by Robert Taylor to the bottom left and in pencil by "Mountbatten of Burma" to the bottom right.
